I am an avid reader with no intentions of becoming a writer and so rely on others to engineer my favourite form of escapism. I am unfortunately often discouraged by back cover blurbs that do not match the actual storyline. Another pet annoyance is poor proof reading or proper editing. I agree with Karen Mercury that a Thesaurus would make a valuable edition to any authors research book library (spellcheck also please). The one that gets my goat most of all is stories where the leading female character is a weak, whinging person who argues with the male character constantly throughout the story. I don't have time in real life for pushy people who refuse to discuss reasonable outcomes or force their demands onto others, so refuse to read about these irritating brats. Keep up the good works ladies, I own many of your stories and have enjoyed the many hours of delight you have given me.<br />Dark Alihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17273042133265705646noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9156387333421092925.post-63530231148438159162013-08-09T15:50:01.830-05:002013-08-09T15:50:01.830-05:00I loved the responses and can relate to so many of...I loved the responses and can relate to so many of them! I don't necessarily toss a book because of that if it doesn't draw me out of the story in a significant way. But I might not consider another book by an author who was too lazy to do some research. My biggest issues are: bad editing, badly written sex scenes, too much detail, men (straight or gay) talking/thinking/reacting like women, clueless straight female authors who jump on the mm romance bandwagon and fail miserably, wishy-washy heroines, amateur writing...any of these or a combination will end up in me tossing that book in the trash or deleting it forever from my Kindle. And, of course, I will never touch another book from said author.Kathleen Chttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04254003917467893943noreply@blogger.com
