~ Symposium: Oops, I Did It Again! ~

Hello Everyone! Welcome to my July symposium!

This month I asked my friends and fellow authors to delve deep into their private memory vaults to share some of their more memorable *face palm* moments or mistakes that they repeatedly make while writing. The answers range from the helpful to hilarious. Find out what they had to say!

LAURIE ROMA: If you have read my books, you know I love a good ensemble scene. The problem? Character highjacking. Yes, that's right. Like an actor in a movie trying to get more 'face time', my characters have a tendency to want more lines, especially when they are having an argument. And they can be pretty damn vocal when they get going. Occasionally, I finish writing a scene and have a WTF moment when I realize that the scene has veered so far off course that I need to hit the dreaded delete button. I have to shake my head, remind myself whose story it is and start the scene over. It's a pain in the ass, but necessary. So is telling my characters to shut the hell up and wait their turn...their books are coming. Do I sound schitzo? Well, that is a subject for a whole different symposium... *wink wink*

Allison Summers is having the mother of all bad days. As a surgeon, Allie is a strong woman who has led a difficult life. She is fighting to make the best of her situation, but everything changes when she is struck by lightning and finds herself transported to another world.

Arcadian Princes Tynan, Cael and Ryder Dracor have been looking for the woman who will complete their souls. Born in a world with a shortage of females, they fear that day will never come. When a goddess suddenly appears they are shocked, but know they want her as their mate. Allie wants to go home but now that they’ve found her, they don’t want to let her go…

When wills clash and legacies are unveiled, it seems as though Allie was destined to become part of this world. But as she struggles with her new life can she find a way to truly be happy and embrace being an Arcadian?

COMING JULY 31st - IAD3: DEADLY TARGET

LAURANN DOHNER: I wrote my first book in 1993 and managed to complete 54 novels before I became published in 2009. On paper that sounds pretty cool but I never learned good grammar or proper sentence structuring since I didn’t have an editor to tell me I made mistakes. The bad habit I struggle to break revolves around independent body parts. Example? His eyes dropped to her chest. (Imagine his eyes falling out and landing on her chest - LOL). It should be his gaze lowered to her chest. (That’s where he’s looking). I’m getting better but I fix a lot of sentences before hitting that submit button. I do see progress. I broke the back to back word issues I had. That’s using a repeated word in a sentence. John walked to the door and walked outside. No! John walked to the door and stepped outside. Thank goodness for editors!

Book 10 in the New Species series. The books can be read as stand-alone stories, but it is advisable to read them in order to get the most enjoyment from the series.

Dr. Joyce Yards has never met anyone as sexy or as irresistible as 466. He refuses to discuss anything except getting her naked beneath him. Their therapy sessions are growing hotter, his raw hunger for her is becoming aggressive, and she is falling for him. Joy knows the dire consequences if she gives in to desire. It will break her heart but she must walk away.

Moon has been drugged. He is feral and dangerous to everyone. The NSO doctors turn to the only female Moon ever cared about—the one who left him in the desert two years ago.

Moon isn’t the same male Joy once knew but she is willing to put her life on the line for him. There are no rules now. If sex tames the wild beast and triggers his fractured memories, allowing him moments of lucidity, then Joy will give him her body and her soul. She’ll do whatever it takes to save him.

SUSAN HAYES: My face palm moments are usually related to my country of birth. I’m Canadian and the child of a British mum, so I was raised with a firm understanding that some words were not really spelled the way Sesame Street said they were. Big Bird was a big, yellow liar and we just won’t go into my issues with Mister Snuffleupagus. Honour, neighbour, and colour were “U” words, and center and theater were really centre and theatre. Fast forward forty (mumbles) something years and behold, I’m a published writer! Huzzah! With an American publisher, oh crap. Converting my brain to American English is a work in progress, and until then I have a list of things I need to run a find/replace for before I sub every manuscript. Extra “U”s, miscellaneous metric references, it all has to go, least I open another set of edits and find that all my Canadianisms have been highlighted and marked for deletion, making my document look like the only survivor of a Skittles factory explosion.

Duncan Masterson lives apart from his vampire brethren and has vowed to never bring another mortal into his dark world. Only his fiercely loyal human guardian, Jared Evans, knows the truth about who and what he is.

For nearly a century, Duncan has held fast to his vow, until the day he finds the beautiful Tabitha Blacke lying dazed and bleeding after a rogue vampire attack. Duncan realizes he must break his vows in order to protect her from the evil that is prowling his territory.

When both Duncan and Jared find themselves falling for their lovely houseguest, they decide to claim her together, forging bonds that will change all of their lives forever.

As trouble draws near, their bond will be tested and sacrifices will be demanded of them all. The two men know they'll do whatever it takes to keep their beloved Tabi safe, but will their love be enough to see them through?

JOYEE FLYNN: When I first started it never occurred to me that I would make it to a 100+ books, so I didn’t plan that far in advance. Hell, I didn’t plan for 20… Until I started getting fan emails regarding my choice in character names. “Who are these guys *name A or name B* that you hate so much you name practically every villain after them?” And here I had NO CLUE I’d even been doing it! Yes, I had issues with those two people, but I had thought they were nice, benign, not realizing I was basically playing “Repeater.” That’s when I decided it was time to start tracking all of the characters in my series and pull my head out of my ass… I mean the sand and pay attention better. And no, I won’t tell you the 2 names, who they are, and what they did. LMAO.

The worst thing for Darius to do when putting his life back together is to desire his son’s best friend. Darius just wants everything to get back to normal and is looking forward to spending break with his son. The last thing he expects is the beauty raiding his fridge or sparks to fly.

Skyler’s young but he’s slept with enough men to know exactly what he wants, and it’s the dream man right in front of him. Except the older god of a vampire won’t touch him no matter what he does!

When a turn of events has them living together for the summer, Darius is going crazy with his teasing. But when he finally gives in to temptation, Skyler isn’t the only one left with bite marks on him, and Darius is left brokenhearted.

Will Skyler be able to keep his wet nose where he wants it, or did he just lose everything because of a mistake he didn’t make?

HENNESSEE ANDREWS: Is there any mistake I repeatedly make? Laurie is such a kidder. I make so many mistakes it’s hard to pinpoint just one! The biggie that stands out to me is my problem with “a”. “He easily stood nearly six feet tall. Her mouth gaped open when he began to unbutton his shirt, slowly, killing what patience she had left. This moment had been building for long time. She cursed internally for fidgeting with her hands. It was not like her to be out of control, or at the mercy of man so intent on making her boneless and wanton.” Don’t laugh at my impromptu paragraph. This is an example. Did you find the two instances??? Without a doubt, that is perfect example of what I continuous do. Yes, I face palm myself a lot. Where’s the A, genius? I ask that question a lot! Did you catch it again?

Drew Radcliff hasn't had good luck with women, which created an enormous chip on his shoulder, and Liv Lancaster is just the woman to knock it off. When she sets her sights on taming the demons inside him, she finds a man able to satisfy her in ways she could only dream of.

In order to free Drew from the pain of his past, Liv knows he must forgive his own indiscretions. Putting him through what she calls The Course may be just what the doctor ordered for expelling demons keeping him from love and the happiness he truly desires.

In Liv's quest to uncover the man hidden beneath the pain, she unleashes a highly sensual and sexual man able to give her all and more. Erotic spanking and bondage prove to be the weapon of choice when fighting for the heart of the sexy senator's son, Drew.

GABRIELLE EVANS: I full admit to being a perfectionist with OCD tendencies. Sticking with that theme, I’m always working to hone my craft and not make the same mistakes twice. The one habit I can’t seem to break, however, is the overuse of adverbs—those complete useless, lazy ly words that equate to big, flashing neon signs of telling rather than showing. “She said quietly.” “He stomped angrily.” “They walked slowly.” You get the idea. I know I shouldn’t use them. I remind myself every time I sit down at my keyboard that there are better descriptors I can use. Yet, every manuscript, I’m scouring the pages during edits, looking for those pesky little buggers. The way I see it, adverbs are kind of like a night of drinking with friends. Sure, it’s easy and feels good now, but you’re probably going to hate yourself for it in the morning.

Zasha Gershwin lives a rigidly controlled life. He doesn’t see anything wrong with being prepared and organized, and he certainly doesn’t have time for such frivolous things as love. He cares for Thane, and he’s certainly attracted to the witch, but that’s just how the mating bond works.

While his mate may not remember their previous life together, Thane Braddock has no trouble recalling every moment, right up to their tragic end. Now, he has a second chance to make everything right. Unfortunately, he’s making all new mistakes this time around.

Evil lurks to the west, spreading its shadow across the desert, and the races hover on the verge of war. When the Braddocks are called to answer the rising threat, Thane and Zasha’s turbulent relationship will be pushed to its breaking point. Can they rekindle the old flame before it’s too late? Or is history destined to repeat itself?

LACEY THORN: I seem to have an obsession with the word ‘that’. Simple word that I manage to overuse a thousand times in every manuscript. It’s to the point where I automatically do a search for it at the end of every book! Still, my editor will find more of them.  I’m not sure where this love of ‘that’ came from, but I seem to cling to it with both hands. And that is about all I can say about that. :)

Tomorrow the auctions will take place. Some become brides, and some become nothing more than belongings who must do as they are told. Winter will have none of it. Taking the first chance of her life, she risks it all to escape, running into the desert and hoping to find something better.

When Roar, Scar, Gate, Shadow and Blade find Winter, they only plan to take her back to the safety of the settlement. But Winter isn’t going back. One way or another she will convince them that there is no other option than to keep her.

TYMBER DALTON: One of the problems I tend to have is affect/effect. No matter how many times I try to remember which is which, even to the extent sometimes of looking it up, there have been plenty of times I’ll just rewrite the whole sentence to avoid using the word in the first place. Another is the lie/lay issue. Usually the tenses of it, because I know people lie and they lay stuff down. LOL Another thing that isn’t really wrong, but there are differing opinions on it, is the “s’s” issue. Like a character whose name ends with the letter “s.” I will NOT use “s’s” because, frankly, it looks strange. I learned in school that it’s “s’” without the extra “s.” I realize both ways are right, but if my editor adds that extra “s,” I will reject it every time. A funny thing that I’m guilty of plenty of times is pronoun gender confusion. LOL Mostly when writing sex scenes. I get to writing so fast, and it’s pretty…um, heated writing, so to speak, that I might write something like, “She wrapped her hand around her cock.” Um, whoops. LOL

Amanda “Manny” Croyle hates technology…and it hates her right back. Which is why it annoys her when she’s assigned to an undercover investigation and protective operation for two computer geeks. But it’s not like she has a life. Just a wounded heart and PTSD from her time in the Middle East.

Korbin Temple and Rhys Gilyard are resigned to the fact that Artemis—a top-secret cyber-security project—is the only “woman” in their life. Then they’re assigned an administrative assistant. They’ve learned not to trust sexy women, especially once they suss out Manny’s true identity, but there’s something sweetly haunted about her and they wouldn’t mind a chance to brighten her world.

Manny knows getting personal is a bad idea, but the two men soon win her heart. Unfortunately, unknown criminals want their hands on Artemis. Now it’s a race against time to see if Manny can unravel the mystery before time runs out for one of her men.

Tymber’s next release is “Two Geeks and Their Girl,” coming 8/2 from Siren-BookStrand.

REBECCA JOYCE: When it comes to writing Erotic Romance, anything and everything can happen, and I am not just talking about the fictional characters I write about. My number one “Oops, I did it again” moment is when I am immersed in the sexual desire between my main characters, I always end up writing myself into my work. Apparently, during this heightened state of arousal, I no longer have a need for my heroine. That’s right, I just plug myself right into the book!  So instead of my heroine getting romped around like a bucking pony, it’s me. It doesn’t matter if it’s just a typical Male/Female or Ménage, during all my pre-edits, it never fails. As I am reading, there it will be and then I shout… “Oops! I did it again!”

Destined to live alone, Gabriel Sexton has never said a word about the hunger inside him. Never able to touch her, to hold her, to love her, she lives in his dreams, where he can cherish her as he wishes. Struggling with his desires, he is gifted one night to bask in her glory.

Antoinette has loved Gabriel since childhood. Her protector, confidant, and friend, she prayed that some day he would be hers. She gives in to her desire for Gabriel, only to have her dreams shattered when he walks away.

Alexander Ellis has quietly lived in the shadows of a man he has considered his best friend from childhood. Concerned, he travels to Treasure Cove, only to lose his heart to the one woman his friend desires.

When a secret from the past seems destined to destroy them, can forgiveness soothe the soul or will shattered dreams keep all of them apart forever?

JENIKA SNOW: My “Oops, I did it again” would have to be when I can’t remember my characters. If I’m working on a story I don’t have a problem, but if I get pulled away for edits or everyday life and finally come back to it, I find I can’t remember who is sleeping with whom, what their hair color is, or even what their names are. This is so frustrating since I have a bad habit of not plotting my stories out ahead of time, then have to go back through the manuscript just to find out who I’m writing about. Time consuming, yes, but most of all it just makes me feel old, and I worry that I didn’t catch everything. Re-reading and doing edits has had me catching many “oops” regarding my characters, but I still worry “Ashley” will be sleeping with “Dean” in one scene, then the next time it will be “Rachel” and “Clark.”

Sophia Kidd has been in love with her best friend Abe Rochester since they were children. With both of their pasts scarred, the only people they can rely on are each other. Unfortunately, Abe has never shown interest in her as more than just a friend.

Known as Trouble in their town, Abe enjoys women, bar brawls, and liquor—and not in that particular order. When one night of drinking results in Sophia and Abe in bed together, she finally has hopes that the man she loves returns her feelings. But when dawn arrives and Abe has no recollection of their passion, humiliation has Sophia fleeing.

She can't run forever though, especially when she finds out she is pregnant. Sophia has no idea how to tell Abe that he is the father when he doesn't even remember sleeping with her.

LORI KING: My favorite *facepalm* moment was when I wrote a sex scene for Sidney’s Triple Shot. In it I had Xavier taking Sidney against the wall. My Beta reader quickly pointed out that I had written the scene with him holding her up on the wall, and somehow I also had her giving him a blowjob. I believe the notes I got back from my Beta were “Is this even physically possible?” It’s easy to get screwed up when you’re writing sex scenes with multiple people in them, and most of my stories are ménage. I’m always switching up names and putting Hero A where Hero B should be or Hero C suddenly appears out of nowhere  like magic. That’s why I have good Beta readers.

Sidney Rowe has been abused in ways that most people can’t even imagine. After a horrific miscarriage, she left behind everything she had to escape her ex-boyfriend. She finds refuge in the kindness of the three Dawson brothers. They give her a job and a sense of security in the small town of Apache Crossing.

Xavier, Tyce, and Noah Dawson have built their bar, Triple Shot, into a profitable enterprise. The three former Marines have also built a reputation for integrity in the community, but their sex appeal and charm are legendary. They enjoy their playboy status…that is until a jumpy, skittish Sidney stumbles into their lives needing their help.

Sexual tension explodes when the brothers decide they want to protect and share Sidney, but to have her they have to stop her ex from haunting her. Can they keep her safe and win her damaged heart?

LEA BARRYMIRE: "Damn it, where the hell is that thesaurus again?" I'm a pretty good speller, I really am. But I have a habit of spelling a word correctly which isn't at all what I wanted. For example exacerbate and exasperate. In my head I'm using the right one, but I spell the wrong one. UGH Oh, and little things like shudder and shutter. I can't tell you how absolutely dumb I feel when a critique partner, or worse my editor, comes back with a 'did you mean x' note. Yes, of COURSE I meant "clit" instead of "clip".

Rella Cinder was born to the submissive race on her planet and has finally reached the age of maturity. She has hated her nature since birth and has fought her submissiveness. As the youngest of four sisters, she’s watched the others go off and look for mates. This time she’s forced to comply with the government’s edicts, which includes attending the Unity Ball and taking a mate from the warrior species. What she doesn’t know is that she has already caught the eye of a warrior before stepping foot into the Ball.

Warrior Sabar T'Brun is ready to take a mate but doesn’t want a weak female. He sees what he craves in the willful Rella during her Initiation Ceremony. Her sweet submission and soft cries of passion are exactly what he wants in a mate.

Can they find each other before the Unity Ball ends? Or will someone else claim her?

ERIKA REED: It is sometimes funny when writing a scene because it seems as we get our momentum going, we seem to miss a few words that auto correct doesn’t always catch. Recently, in my latest manuscript, Wild Inferno, I found out that I accidentally missed a few misspelled words that changed the entire meaning of the sentence I was trying to portray to my readers. I often catch myself with the funny and usual oops words like “slit” and “spit” that occur during my heated sex scenes. Those types of mistakes always cause me to giggle when I eventually do find them.

Kasey Mcintyre, her cousin, and her best friend are visiting the town of Inferno, California. They’re just there to watch Kasey’s dad’s recognition ceremony at the local firehall, but there’s trouble kindling for the three of them and it’s going to stop them from enjoying their visit.

Brothers Zach, Jake, and Cody Kelly feel their libidos ignite when Kasey’s car almost collides with their fire engine. The three brothers always knew they’d find the right woman to share, just as they always knew that they’d be raising their future family here in Inferno, where their chosen lifestyle would be accepted and respected. The Kelly boys believe that Kasey is the woman for them, so when the situation heats up and burns out of control, they’ll stop at nothing to protect the woman they have all come to love.

It’s going to take love, trust, and courage for the four new lovers to discover the truth and find out who is after Kasey…and why.

ALEX CARRERAS: The mistake I repeatedly make [there are many but I refuse to admit to them all] is the overuse of the word "that". For some reason I like to fit the word that into every other sentence I write. Strangely enough, in everyday conversation with friends, neighbors, cashiers, toll takers, busboys, whomever, I hardly use this word, but when writing dialogue, it's another story completely! And that's the truth.

Sun, Surf, Sand, and a Sling

When David Hendricks suggests a weekend away to Fort Lauderdale, Daniel Fletcher, David’s partner of five years, jumps at the chance imagining long stretches of sandy white beaches, cloudless blue skies and warm ocean breezes caressing his skin. What he doesn’t imagine is a clothing optional resort were the guests wear nothing but a smile and a cock ring, and each room has a sling suspended from the ceiling.

With their relationship in need of some excitement, Daniel agrees to humor his partner and go along with the weekend instead of throwing the car in reverse and driving the three hours back home across the state.

After a swim in the pool and a pitcher or two of Margaritas blended by Bruce, the bubble butt bartender, Daniel’s reluctant attitude takes a turn with a little help from a swing. A swing in a sling.

With a cast of characters true to south Florida, David and Daniel’s love for one another grows …along with another part of the male anatomy. Get ready to check in to The Leather Inn where there’s a sling in every room and a surprise around every corner.

SIOBHAN MUIR: Transporter Characters - Beam Me…Somewhere, Scotty! You know what I’m talking about. One moment, the hero is standing in the doorway, drying to convince the heroine he’s terribly sorry for screwing up, and the next sentence has him gathering her into his lap on the couch. Wait, what? When did they get from the door to the couch? Usually my continuity is pretty good, but you have to stop writing to sleep and sometimes the scene starts up somewhere else in the morning from where it ended the night before, especially if you have to move things around during edits. This is why I have critique partners to catch when I’m beaming characters from one part of the room to the other without apparent physical motion.

Magic, mayhem, and motherhood… a witch’s work is never done, but Sabrina draws the line at the Fae.

After almost two decades as a practicing witch in Cloudburst, Colorado, Sabrina Foxglove is done with men, magic, and the fertility rituals of High Beltane. She’s dealt with all three before and ended up with a young daughter and no partner. Twice. She’s looking forward to a magic-free May Day, with nothing more exciting than making brownies for a kindergarten class and decorating a May Pole. She definitely doesn’t have time for a handsome, Fae-touched man.

After almost two centuries as the human chamberlain to the Fae’s Summer Court, Darius Winterbourne is a man accustomed to getting his way. So when the Summer Queen tasks him with finding a witch to perform the annual rituals and strengthen the ancient warding magicks, he figures it should be easy. He doesn’t expect Sabrina’s hardheaded refusal, her untrained abilities, or his attraction to her. With less than a week to Beltane, he must gain Sabrina’s trust before he loses his home, his position…and his heart.

MIA ASHLINN: Oops! I did it again...and again. And yep, I did it again. I misspelled ‘ecstasy.’ Now you might be wondering what self-respecting erotic romance writer can’t spell ‘ecstasy.’ And you might not be. It’s hard to tell. After all, I’m no psychic. Although, I have to say that that would be freaking cool. But I, for some strange reason, cannot spell ‘ecstasy.’ Not for the life of me. Honestly, if I had a quarter for every time I’ve had to hit that infernal backspace button to change ‘ecstacy’ to ‘ecstasy,’ I’d be able to buy myself something wickedly awesome like an—ahem—Lamborghini Aventador in white. Oh yeah, I’d go for the pure, innocent, virginal color. Seriously, a sweet girl like me should never be seen in bad-ass black or sinful red. What would the neighbors think? Well, okay, I’m full of…you know what. But hey, a girl can dream.

Sometimes what a person wants most has been standing in front of them all along.

Four months ago, an eye-opening discovery drove Sam Carrington away from his best friends, Brett Monroe and Ethan Bartlett. Now he’s beginning his new life in Luscious, Kansas. But still, he longs for the men he loves.

Brett and Ethan were shattered when Sam vanished. Every day since his disappearance has been devoted to finding him. However, their search is in vain because two of Sam’s powerful friends made sure he was impossible to find.

After Sam is stabbed while protecting a friend, he shuts everyone around him out. Concerned for his emotional well-being, one of his protectors turns to Brett and Ethan for help. Once the men know where Sam is, they’ll do whatever it takes to get him back. Only their journey won’t be easy. And the path they must take will lead them to either a luscious beginning or a heartbreaking end.

NOTE: Luscious Beginnings is truly just the beginning for Sam, Brett, and Ethan. After finding their HEA, a new dream will come along in the form of a woman named Athena in Their Luscious Dream (MMMF), to be published later this summer.

SHAE SHANNON: Thank you Ms. Laurie for having me back!  I look forward to these every month! This subject was made just for me, huh?  I do not have ‘face- palm’ moments, I have ‘beat head against wall repeatedly’ moments.  I think my most common oopsie comes when I am on a roll and in a good groove. I get so wrapped up in my thoughts, that I will type a character’s name that was used in a previous book.  I have even missed it when doing the final draft and had an editor point it out to me. Embarrassing! The little comment bubble will say, “Who is this?” I am horrible about thinking of a great word to use, and then repeating it over and over and over… which takes hours to go back through and replace each with a new word.  I get a light bulb go off, and for some reason I continue to think it is a new discovery for chapters upon end. It ends up being like a bad episode of ‘Reading Rainbow.’ Now, I will be singing this song for the rest of the day… ;)

An alpha wolf, and an alpha panther—both of which are hot, sexy, brick walls of ooh-la-la wrapped up in "yes please, give me more"—decide to pursue Giselle Shalay, things explode in a supernova of desire and need. She is torn between what her body craves and what her mind protests. She is a free-spirited, independent witch who could never succumb to the role of an obedient, mindless, submissive wife. Aiden Grey refuses to share Giselle, whether Brandon Knight is meant to mate her or not. Brandon tries to show him reason, but any discussions end up in blows. When push comes to shove, he turns to his pack and declares war against the panthers in a fight to win her hand.

Can they come to terms with what fate has dealt and work together in convincing Giselle that her place is with them, or will egos and misconceived ideas keep destiny from joining their hearts forever?

MELODY SNOW MONROE: My biggest mistake in writing was in thinking I could start a book without taking the time to figure out what made my characters tick. For the first 20-30 books I would come up with a high concept that sounded cool and them drop in characters. I would write the first part of the book hoping I learned enough about the characters to carry the plot. WRONG! I always got to a point where I didn’t know where to go. That was frustrating. With a lot of self-discipline, I now come up with a core event in my character’s past lives (after putting a twist on it) that gives him/her a certain set of beliefs. Out of that the plot evolves. And my characters are well-motivated!! But as I said, it took many, many books (i.e. face plants) to truly learn my lesson.

Two years ago, when Vicki Hollister nursed war-wounded Clint and Sanford Mansfield back to health, they fell in love—or so Vicki thought. For her own good, they ended the relationship when they returned to duty. Their decision devastated her. Now they’re back and want her, but can she trust them with her fragile heart?

When Sanford hires her to run his mayoral campaign, their passion burns and desire reignites. The problem is, Vicki is the poster child for vanilla sex, and the totally buff brothers are Doms. She’s gained a lot of weight since their departure, and she fears they’ll not be attracted to her anymore.

All goes well until the men misstep, and Vicki believes she can never be their perfect sub. Clint and Sanford will do anything to win back her love, even throw away their cuffs and blindfolds, but will it be enough?

TARA ROSE: Continuity issues. They're so easy to miss because most of us don't have the time or stamina to sit down and knock out that 70K book in two days! When you haven't looked at the great foreshadowing you did in Chapter 2 for over two weeks, and you're just plugging along, trying to get to THE END by your deadline, you tend to forget that it was there by Chapter 29! Luckily, I have fabulous editors at Siren who catch those kinds of things, and I always read over my manuscripts one more time before I send them off!

When Fire Inspector Storm Jamison and Fire Chief Cameron Sinclair invite Olivia Kelly to privately tour the local BDSM club, she’s intrigued but gun-shy because of her past. But as her fantasies become reality after a demonstration progresses to play, her whirlwind romance with both Doms heats up quickly.

Storm Jamison is unwilling to give his heart again. Once burned twice bitten. But Olivia challenges everything about love that he’s tried for years to resist, and before long he can’t deny his feelings for her.

Cameron Sinclair has never fallen in love, and he doesn’t want to. His parents’ abuse and sham of a marriage have left him afraid to love, but Olivia melts his resolve.

When Olivia becomes the victim of a criminal bent on vengeance, can her Doms save her in time, or will they lose her before they have a chance to tell her that they love her?

TAYLOR BERKE: I think that every writer had a moment of wanting to put their hands or head in the paper shredder. With education, repetition and experience, how is it that we keep doing certain things that leave us frustrated and/or annoyed. For instance, I am in the depths of a steamy love scene.  The heroine is thrashing, limbs intertwined with his, their sweat mixing as their bodies mesh when suddenly…the dopey writer goes to spell orgasm for what? Only the millionth time in her life, and subsequently misspells it AGAIN.  It breaks the train of thought and flow of my mojo.  Oy. Just for giggles and further examples of why I want to sometimes stick bleach sticks up my nose, did you all know that "you" is only "you"?  My fingers have a life of their own and like to spell it "youi". ADULT EXCERPT

“What are you doing?”

“What does it look like I’m doing?” Mikayla whispered as her hands slid down his chest, over his taunt abs until they reached the front of his jeans.

His breath hissed out as she began working the top button of his jeans opened while her other hand stroked over the rigid length of his cock through the thin material. “Jesus, Mikayla. This room doesn’t have a lock. We can’t do this here.”

Mikayla laughed at the incredulous look on his face as she drew the zipper of his jeans down, allowing the thick, hard length of his to spring free. She took his cock in her hand, pleased that her fingertips didn’t touch around his thick shaft. She nipped at his chin with her teeth as she began stroking his cock, rubbing the pearl of pre-cum weeping at the tip with her thumb.

“Don’t tell me the great Gage Stark is worried about someone seeing us.”

His eyes widened in surprise even as the lust flared brighter in his emerald green eyes. “You aren’t?”

Mikayla shrugged. “You started this. Now I’m aching and want you to finish it. Finish me, come on, Gage. I dare you.”

Fucking hell, she was trying to kill him.

Gage’s breath left in a rush. Christ, he felt like someone had sucker punched him. His body burned with a possessive fire as his mind snapped off, and he began pulling at her pants with shaking hands. Thank god for elastic, he thought gleefully as he shoved the black pants down her legs easily, remembering at the last moment to be careful of the bandage on her thigh.

Fuck him, he wanted to devour her, to eat her up with big greedy bites. And he would, but not here. Not know when anyone could walk in and see them. He’d be damned if he let anyone see his woman naked.

And she was his.

God help her, he was hers, too. She literally had him by the cock and he felt like he would die if he didn’t pound himself inside her until neither of them could move. His cock was throbbing painfully, wanting to be inside the tight depths of her pussy again.

Gage gritted his teeth as he felt his cock harden in her tiny hand as all the blood in his head rushed down to his groin. His erection was heavy, thick and pulsing, and ready to fuck her until she begged him to stop.

He stepped back, groaning as she refused to release his cock. Instead, she tightened her grip on him as he quickly removed her pants from one of her legs so he could spread her wide. He looked down at her pussy on display for him, wanting to pound himself inside that little hole. Hell, the entire bar could walk in at that moment and he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from fucking her.

He grabbed her hips and slid her forward so she was sitting at the edge of the table. She wound her long legs around him again, pulling him closer. His hand slid down stroking his fingers down her slit, spreading her juices. She used her legs to pull him tighter against her.

“Wait, baby. I gotta get you ready for me.” Gage breathed out on a laugh. “Don’t you want any foreplay?”

“Fuck the foreplay. I want to feel you inside me again, Gage. I need it.”

Gage growled as he jerked her head back to once again feast on her mouth as she guided his cock into her hot, wet pussy. Breathing heavily, Mikayla moaned into his mouth as he slid forward, burying himself into her until the mushroomed head of his cock was tight against the entrance to her womb,

“God, you feel so good, baby. So tight and so fucking perfect. Your pussy hugs my cock like it was made to be inside you.” Gage’s voice was thick with lust. His bright-green eyes gleamed with a hunger he could barely control.

“Gage, I need you to…” Mikayla moaned.

“What, baby?” Gage growled. “Tell me what you need, and I’ll give it to you.”

Mikayla's eyes opened and narrowed on his face as she saw the tight clench of his jaw. He was making her crazy, and still he held on to the thin edge of his control. No, that wouldn’t do. If she had no control, then neither would he. She gripped his hair tight in her hand and bit down on his lower lip. “I need you to fuck me. Fuck me hard, Gage. Shove your big dick inside me and make me come.”

Fuck!

With no warning, Gage did exactly what she asked and began pumping hard into her, shoving his cock into her hot little hole, tearing a strangled scream from her throat that he muffled with his own mouth. He hummed low in his throat as he moved down, his teeth savaging her neck, nipping and lapped at the soft flesh there.

“Oh god,” Mikayla groaned, letting him know exactly what he was doing to her. “Gage, gimme more. Give it to me.”

~ Sneak Peek: Deadly Target ~

Want a sneak peek of my upcoming release? Here it is! This is the first excerpt from Deadly Target, Book 3 of the IAD series, coming July 31st! Enjoy!

Story Excerpt:

Mikayla kept walking toward the door, her hand reaching out for the handle when Gage’s large hand covered hers. He leaned in, his hot breath sending a shiver down her spine as he whispered into her ear.
“A woman doesn’t open doors when she’s with me.”
Mikayla turned her head slowly so their lips were a breath apart from each other. “Good thing I’m not with you then, isn’t it?” She jerked the door open, welcoming the blast of cold air as it hit her face, cooling the lust burning in her belly.
Gage followed her outside into the parking lot, walking beside her silently as she made her way to the large SUV. She hit the button on the key fob to open the doors and turned to face him, noting that he kept his body turned away from her to minimize her view of his scarred face.
He really was sinfully good looking. Playing around with this man was not a good idea, even if her libido told her differently. Roz had given her the warning for a reason, and until she knew more she would not be getting any closer to this man. She saw the lust burning in his eyes, but there was something else there that made her wary. Still, curiosity had her asking, “Why exactly are you out here with me?”
“There has been some trouble in this area. Haven’t you heard about it?”
Her interest was sparked. She leaned against the side of the SUV and cocked her head to the side. “What trouble?”
“Some women have gone missing in the neighboring towns and in Denver. You shouldn’t be out alone at night. It’s dangerous and you’re injured. Should you even be out? You could slip on the ice or something.”
Mikayla smiled. “Don’t worry. I can take care of myself.” She opened the car door and turned back when he spoke.
“Why did you say that inside, about my sister?”
Her eyes widened in disbelief. “Are you kidding?”
“No,” he said through gritted teeth. She couldn’t tell it if was due to anger or the cold. Either way, the question was ridiculous. She sighed.
Were some men seriously that clueless?
“You were completely disrespectful to her. I figured someone should call you out on it.”
Gage took a step forward, crowding her with his large body. A white cloud swirled out as he released a harsh breath into the night air. “You have no idea what you’re talking about. I love my sister,” he growled in anger.
“You may love her, but you don’t respect her very much. You ordered her home after she took your dog to the vet while you and friends played pool in the bar? Maybe you don’t know what thank you means, but that would have been a better way to start that conversation. Now, I will say thank you for the touch of chivalry walking me out here and for the warning. It was appreciated.” She opened the door to the vehicle and got inside, careful not to jar her leg. She stuck the key in the car and started it.
His eyes had narrowed as he frowned at her. Even with that sinister look on his face and the scars on one side, it didn’t detract from his dark appeal. “We aren’t through with this conversation.”
“We are for now.” Mikayla was surprised she didn’t burst into flames at the sudden flare of heat in his bright emerald-green eyes.
“Come home with me.”
She blinked in surprise.
“I want you,” Gage said, his voice a low, heated whisper. “If you agree, this wouldn’t be a date. I don’t date. This would be me fucking you until you come so hard you pass out. That’s it.”
Oh hell no, seriously?
Idiot.
Did he really think she was just going to drop her panties because he said that? Not that she was wearing any. Mikayla sighed loudly and fought back the urge to slam her head into the steering wheel. Why did shit like this always happen to her? It was a good thing she had firsthand knowledge of the irrational way men’s minds worked sometimes since she worked with a bunch of them daily, or else she might have to hurt him. Badly. “You’d have better luck with the blonde inside. Goodnight, Mr. Stark.”
“So you do know who I am.”
“Yes, I do. Which is more than I can say for you.” She started to close the door, but his large hand holding it stopped her.
“You can’t tell me you aren’t attracted to me. I see that you are. What’s your name?”
Mikayla sent him a mischievous smile. “Perhaps you should have started this particular conversation with that question. Goodnight.”

She shifted the SUV into gear and released the break just enough so the SUV pulled forward, jerking the door out of his grasp. She slammed the door closed and pulled into the street, watching as Gage grew smaller in her rearview mirror.
